Quote of the day

If you know Matthew, then you know that his favorite thing to eat (and practically the only thing that he eats) is crackers with peanut butter and jelly. Well, Jeremy and I have been trying our hardest to convince him to try other foods, so the new rule is, "You eat whatever Mom and Dad are eating" (I wish I would have done that a couple years ago and maybe I wouldn't have such a problem now!). Anyway, I was cooking dinner yesterday and Matthew was going on and on about how gross it was. I told him, "Matthew, I think it's time to grow up a little bit and start eating like a big boy."

His response, "Mommy, growing up is a bad idea. Matt-matt boys just eat crackers."

Ha! Poor guy. We've turned his world upside-down by forcing him to try foods other than peanut butter crackers. He longs for the good ol' days when he could just wake up, play, eat his crackers, take a nap, wake up, play, eat his crackers, and go to bed. My dear Matt-matt, growing up is sometimes such a hard thing to do. :)

We too are having this issue with eating "real" food. Luckily Carter's preschool teacher introduced, "Thank you bites." In preschool, they rotate a treat basket and of course not all the kids are going to like the treats that other kids bring. They have to at least try a "thank you bite" to say thank you for bringing it and to try new things. We have expanded it to dinner too. We have to try at least 3 thank you bites of everything. (that doesn't mean I'm going to make a special meal after that though either, it means you have to try a little of everything and if you like one thing more than another you can have more of that.) We also had friends who tell their kids what they didn't eat for dinner they would have to eat for breakfast the next morning. We also have tried this the last few days and sure enough dinner gets eaten because who wants chicken for breakfast! These kiddos crack me up with their picky habits!

That is classic. You should start using his line....Matt-matt boys do this and Matt-matt boys do that...
good luck with getting them to eat real food, kind of dealing with that with Sam.
